A Man of God was a Cop Saving Lives at PP

November 28, 2015

Swasey’s Last Sermon

by Jordan Standridge

Garrett Swasey was the officer killed trying to rescue people at a planned parenthood facility in Colorado Springs.

Swasey was shot while saving people at a place he abhorred.

He was an elder of a church that believed in the inerrancy of scripture, and that abortion is evil.

Let that sink in.

A man who hated abortion and hated murder–who gave his life helping others–didn’t hesitate about going to Planned Parenthood to save lives.

Garrett Swasey was also a preacher.

He was an elder at Hope Chapel in Colorado Springs.
garrett Swasey
In his last sermon (you can listen to the whole thing here), he encourages his congregation to consider Christ and the Gospel.

He seems to be a pretty humorous guy, with a low view of himself and a high view of Jesus.

But one thing he said in his last sermon stuck out to me. He said he never seemed to be quoted on the things that he’d like, but he always got quoted on the things he said that he didn’t like (every preacher probably knows exactly what he means by that).

Well, in honor of his heroic effort and our common love of Christ, I’d like to honor the Lord by quoting things Sweeney said in his last sermon. I hope they bless you as they have me:

Jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers, therefore we must not be ashamed to call each other brothers in Christ. We are not born brothers, but it is something that happened to us after birth.
We are redeemed by Christ despite our betrayal.

If we were able to be more attentive we would be able to love Christ more and be able to obey him more.

We are part of a family. Your sin affects me and my sin affects you. Exhortation comes with the territory, it’s part of being part of the family of God.

We must accurately consider our fallen state, but it’s easy to be self-absorbed.
When we are accurately considering our fallen condition  we very quickly just become focused on that and forget about Christ and forget about the Gospel.
Even in an attempt to be more attentive to it!
However we’re not the object of our own faith. Christ is!
One of the challenges is that the idea of Immanuel (God with us) becomes common place.
I think it’s important for us to renew and refresh in our minds how amazing it is that God walked among us.
We were once enemies of God. To truly grasp this, we need to understand man in his natural state is opposed to God.
We like to think they are neutral, no they are not neutral, and it’s important also to understand that God is opposed to man because of sin.
So there’s this clash going on between God and man because of sin.
With God we have this mentality we don’t want to change. I like my sin! I enjoy my sin! so in the midst of all of that we decide to change God!
People say, “I’m a halfway decent person!” “God’s going to let everyone into heaven, because he’s so loving and merciful.”
This really diminishes the idea of what sin is, and how it impacts our relationship with God and how opposed He is to it.
We tend to want to do our own thing, “rugged individualism” but in spiritual matters we are utterly dependent on Christ, we cannot stand before God on our own merits!
Jesus is the cornerstone, we are merely stones being added to it.
Jesus is the builder of the house, and he receives more glory than the house.
And if we’re the house He gets more glory than we do.
Our objective is not to bring glory to ourselves but to bring glory to God.
How? By transforming our lives through the gospel, apart from that it can’t be done, not in our own strength.
Everything we have comes from the Lord and everything we have should glorify the Lord.
And everything we need is provided by God because Christ is sufficient.
Perseverance is not something that we do in order to obtain salvation, it is merely evidence of us being in the house of the Lord.
So if we are not in the house of the Lord, we are not persevering.
Perseverance is the evidence of us being in the house of the Lord, it is not the means of us being there.
If it were, it would be works. (Eph. 2:8-9)
We aren’t saved by perseverance we are saved by grace!
Today if we hear His voice, if we hear his voice, do it today, not tomorrow, do not let me sleep on it, today!
Before it is too late!
Today if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts!
HE ENDED HIS SERMON WITH THESE INCREDIBLE WORDS

Douglas Macarthur says, “history of failure can be summed up in two words: too late”.
I think it speaks to the illustration I’m about to give, where the devil and his cohorts are devising plans to get people to reject the gospel.
So one of them proposes, “well, let’s go to them and let’s say there’s no God” and silence prevailed over the group because every devil knew, that most people believe in some kind of supreme being.
‘There are no atheist in foxholes!’ another said “let’s tell them there’s no hell, no future punishment for the wicked.”
That was turned down too because men obviously have consciences and know that sin has to be punished somehow.
And so this gathering was about to end in failure and there came this voice at the back of the room. “Lets tell them that there is a God, there is a hell, and that the Bible is the word of God, but tell them there is plenty of time to decide.
Let them neglect the gospel until its too late.”
And all hell erupted in a glee because they knew if a man procrastinated on Christ they usually never accept him.
There is much for us to consider today…we must consider the object of our consideration.
What is it? let us exhort one another to consider Christ not as we would imagine Him, but as He is written about in the Scriptures, and finally let us not harden our hearts to the Gospel!
Let’s pray,
Lord you are tremendously patient with us, and in that patience we can become inattentive, thinking that somehow your grace, patience and mercy is something for us to consider, as a default position where there is not judgment or punishment for sin.
Lord let us view grace as what it truly is, a costly tremendous gift, that cost you everything, that we might be in relationship with you.
And because of the high price of that gift, that we might make You and the Gospel the forefront of our minds as the most valuable thing we possess, as we sang this morning , You can have all this world but give us Jesus!
Give us you!
So Lord as we sing I ask that our hearts would be attentive towards You, that we would consider You and what you’ve done and that we wouldn’t just leave it here but as we go about the day…that this would be the conversation that's on our lips, that this would be what we post on Facebook, that this would be at the forefront of our Bible studies, that we would read attentively recognizing what a precious gift You are!
In Jesus name, Amen.
Let’s pray for Hope Chapel in Colorado Springs, pray for officer Swasey’s beautiful family.

And may we all learn from pastor Swasey, to value life knowing it is God who gives it.

To be courageous in life, to have our eyes fixed on Heaven and to implore those around us to understand life is short, and that today is the day of our salvation!

End Fed Devaluation of Our Economy

Who can see straight these daze?

Congress Votes to Raid Fed’s Slush Fund to Pay for Highways

Written by

In its never-ending quest to spend money it doesn’t have, but not wanting to raise taxes, especially during the current election cycle, on Thursday, November 5 Congress passed a $325-billion, six-year transportation bill that is to be financed by selling off some of the country’s strategic petroleum reserves and raiding the Federal Reserve.

In its editorial complaint about the bill, the Washington Post said that the bill “takes money out of one government pocket — the Fed — and puts it into another — the highway program.”

The implication is that Congress should use “real” money, taken by force from the American taxpayer, whether he likes it or not, instead of using “paper” money created by the Fed out of nothing.

It’s hardly a distinction. The Fed has, for the last 102 years, been a gigantic money printing press that has morphed — via “mission creep” — into the government’s largest and most invasive federal agency, with its actions affecting every financial transaction undertaken by every American every time he or she spends a dollar.

Sold initially back in 1913 as the “lender of last resort” for banks that got themselves into trouble, the Fed has since the Great Depression become Congress’ “lender of first resort” when taxpayers refused to be mulcted further directly through tax increases.

[Obamacare unAffordable Healthcare 22 new taxes were the largest tax hike in history.]

As a result, the Fed has been financing congressional deficit spending for years, indirectly taxing those taxpayers through inflation — the gradual incremental loss of purchasing power of their money.

The usual apologists for the Fed showed up in print shortly after the bills were passed by Congress (which are waiting now for conference to iron out differences before being sent to the president) to explain, as best they could, why using the Fed’s capital to pay for highways was a bad idea.

First up was former chairman of the Fed, Ben Bernanke, who now holds forth at the liberal Brookings Institute as a distinguished fellow. Writing in his Brookings blog, Bernanke did his best to come up with reasons why this taking of funds from the Fed’s capital account is a bad idea:

“It’s not good optics or good precedent for Congress to be seen as raiding the supposedly independent central bank to pay for spending.”

It’s not clear what he means by “good optics,” but it is abundantly clear that this is precisely what Congress has been doing for years: letting the Fed purchase freshly minted government bonds to pay for new spending.

The only difference appears to be that the highway bill is a direct “raid” on the Fed rather than an indirect one.

Bernanke says no, that this bill is not paying for highways “in any economically meaningful sense … [but] is a form of budgetary sleight-of-hand.”

Again, it's merely a slightly different sleight-of-hand: Both rely on money created out of thin air that really comes out of taxpayers' pockets, through inflation and other means.

Alice Rivlin, equally laden with similar titles (former vice chair of the Fed, former director of the White House Office of Management of Budget, and former director of the Congressional Budget Office), entered the verbal fray:

Paying for highways and other infrastructure with Federal Reserve capital is a new low in budgetary gimmickry.
Repair and improvement of America’s dangerously antiquated infrastructure is a sound investment in future prosperity that will create well-paying jobs into the bargain. But that investment should be financed by sustainable sources.
[An increase in] the gas tax is a logical source.

Translation: It’s better to tax the American taxpayer directly rather than indirectly.

The real issue was finally revealed by Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer: the Fed’s alleged necessary and precious “independence” from political influence and haggling.

In a speech the day before the House passed its version of the highway bill, Fischer stated:

Recently some have proposed that the Fed be used to provide revenue to fund specific government initiatives. [This amounts to] quasi-fiscal policy, with manifold implications for central bank independence as well as for the quality of fiscal policy decisions.

In other words, control of monetary policy is far too important to be put in the hands of politicians [elected representatives].

That precious independence is defended on the Fed’s website:

The Congress [back in 1913] … structured the Federal Reserve to ensure that its monetary policy decisions focus on achieving … long run goals and do not become subject to political pressures that could lead to undesirable outcomes.

But the Fed hasn't made undesirable outcomes go away, or even lessen.

Michael Snyder has listed on his Economic Collapse blog just a few of those “undesirable outcomes” that the Fed has engineered over the last decade.

Taken directly from page 131 of a Government Accounting Office audit report, he noted that the following banks received secret loans from the Fed at the nadir of the start of the Great Recession:

Citigroup — $2.5 trillion
Morgan Stanley — $2.0 trillion
Merrill Lynch — $1.9 trillion
Bank of America — $1.3 trillion — along with 16 others totaling $5.6 trillion, and “all other borrowers” — $2.6 trillion.

Snyder listed for his readers 11 reasons why the Fed needs to be abolished, including its deliberate policy of destroying the purchasing power of the dollar, its role as a “perpetual debt machine," its position as a centrally planned financial system that is the antithesis of a free market, its enablement of booms and busts, its horrific failure in seeing the bubble it had created before the real estate bust that heralded the Great Recession and, most importantly, its claim of independence from either Congress or the American people.

To say that the Fed — a creature of Congress — is exempt from congressional maneuvering and manipulation is to give the Fed much more independence than the original Federal Reserve Act ever envisioned.

Even its very adoption — the assigning of a constitutional power to an independent federal agency — is questionable.

With the highway bill, Congress is establishing a very important principle: The Fed is its creature, and Congress can modify or abolish it, at its will.

That’s what really makes the Fed officials nervous.

CNN Cut That Out

If ever there were any doubt about monopoly media owned by six companies

Cancel the Debate! CNN Caught Selectively-Editing Trump’s ‘Muslim’ Comments

Left-wing cable news network CNN has been caught red-handed selectively editing Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump’s comments about a “Muslim registry,” and doing so in order to make it sound as though he is agreeing to this registry. He is not.

The edited video is yet another lying log on the left-wing garbage fire that is CNN, and yet in just three weeks, this very same garbage fire is hosting the next Republican presidential debate!

What exactly does CNN have to do in order to lose its right to depose these candidates for two hours in front of the whole world? If CNN is already maliciously editing video to “take out” out the frontrunner, I don’t even want to speculate.

Courtesy of Gateway Pundit, watch the CNN video. Pay special attention to the sneaky edit just before Trump says “absolutely”:
—
—
The left-wing liars at CNN have intentionally edited the video to make it look as though Trump said “absolutely” to a Muslim registry. What CNN edited out is in bold:

Reporter: Should there be a database system that tracks Muslims who are in this country?
Trump: There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases. We should have a lot of systems, and today you can do it. But right now we need to have a border, we have to have strength, we have to have a wall, and we cannot let what’s happening to this country happen any longer.
Reporter: Is that something your White House would like to implement?
Donald Trump: I would certainly implement that. Absolutely.
Trump’s “absolutely” is clearly in reference to strengthening the border. Look at the whole transcript. When the NBC News reporter asks, “Is that something your White House would like to implement?,” Trump has just talked about fortifying the border and obviously believes that is what the NBC reporter is referring to.

CNN edited that out!

It is time for Reince Priebus and the Republican Party to stand up these left-wing hit squads disguising themselves as journalists.

CNN should not be allowed within a country mile of a GOP debate.
How many more warning signs does the Republican Party need to realize that this is a suicide mission?
Do we want to win in 2016, or not?

US Manufacturing Death

Empire State index remains deeply negative in November

Published: Nov 16, 2015 10:07 a.m. ET

Index rises but came in well below forecasts

Bloomberg

Workers at the Plexi-Craft factory floor in the Queens borough of New York
A reading of New York-area manufacturing remained deep in negative territory in November, a further sign of the tough sledding facing U.S. factories in a weak global economy.

The Empire State general business conditions index inched up to a reading of negative 10.7 from negative 11.4 in October, the New York Fed said. This marked the first four consecutive months where the index has been below negative 10 since early 2009.

Economists had expected a smaller contraction in the index, which is on a scale where any positive number indicates improving conditions.

A MarketWatch-compiled economist poll had expected a negative 6.5 reading in November.

Both the new-orders component and the shipments index had smaller contractions in November. Readings for unfilled orders and inventories were weaker.

At the same time, labor market conditions continue to deteriorate, with employment levels and hours worked declining.

The index for future business activity was little changed, suggesting “tepid optimism” about the future, the New York Fed said.

Economists said the report was very weak but perhaps not a leading indicator of national trends.

“The only saving grace is that the NY Fed district is a small minority of the overall manufacturing sector, so there may be some issues specific to business conditions in the region or the specific subsectors in the region that are causing the weakness in the index. We do not think that this is a harbinger for the November ISM Manufacturing Index when it is released at the beginning of December,” said Thomas Simons, an economist at Jefferies.

The ISM index has stayed above 50, which indicates expansion, since November 2012. The index slowed to 50.1 in October.

The manufacturing sector faces tough conditions from slower oil company spending, the strong dollar and slowing growth in Asia, said Ian Shepherdson, chef economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics.

Paul Ashworth, chief U.S. economist at Capital Economics, said he didn’t expect “meaningful improvement” in the index anytime soon.

Syrian Pill

Tiny pill fueling Syria’s war and turning fighters into Drug Addicts

As The Post's Liz Sly recently noted, the war in Syria has become a tangled web of conflict dominated by "al-Qaeda veterans, hardened Iraqi insurgents, Arab jihadist ideologues and Western volunteers."

On the surface, those competing actors are fueled by an overlapping mixture of ideologies and political agendas.
Just below it, experts suspect, they're powered by something else: Captagon.

A tiny, highly addictive pill produced in Syria and widely available across the Middle East, its illegal sale funnels hundreds of millions of dollars back into the war-torn country's black-market economy each year, likely giving militias access to new arms, fighters and the ability to keep the conflict boiling, according to the Guardian.

“Syria is a tremendous problem in that it’s a collapsed security sector, because of its porous borders, because of the presence of so many criminal elements and organized networks,” the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) regional representative, Masood Karimipour, told Voice of America.

“There’s a great deal of trafficking being done of all sorts of illicit goods — guns, drugs, money, people. But what is being manufactured there and who is doing the manufacturing, that’s not something we have visibility into from a distance.”

A powerful amphetamine tablet based on the original synthetic drug known as "fenethylline," Captagon quickly produces a euphoric intensity in users, allowing Syria's fighters to stay up for days, killing with a numb, reckless abandon.

"You can't sleep or even close your eyes, forget about it," said a Lebanese user, one of three who appeared on camera without their names for a BBC Arabic documentary that aired in September. "And whatever you take to stop it, nothing can stop it."

"I felt like I own the world high," another user said. "Like I have power nobody has. A really nice feeling."

"There was no fear anymore after I took Captagon," a third man added.

According to a Reuters report published in 2014, the war has turned Syria into a "major" amphetamines producer -- and consumer.

"Syrian government forces and rebel groups each say the other uses Captagon to endure protracted engagements without sleep, while clinicians say ordinary Syrians are increasingly experimenting with the pills, which sell for between $5 and $20," Reuters reported.

Captagon has been around in the West since the 1960s, when it was given to people suffering from hyperactivity, narcolepsy and depression, according to the Reuters report.

By the 1980s, according to Reuters, the drug's addictive power led most countries to ban its use.

The United State classified fenethylline ("commonly known by the trademark name Captagon") as a Schedule I drug under the federal Controlled Substances Act in 1981, according to the National Criminal Justice Reference Service

Still, the drug didn't exactly disappear.

VOA notes that while Westerners have speculated that the drug is being used by Islamic State fighters, the biggest consumer has for years been Saudi Arabia.

In 2010, a third of the world's supply — about seven tons — ended up in Saudi Arabia, according to Reuters. VOA estimated that as many as 40,000 to 50,000 Saudis go through drug treatment each year.

“My theory is that Captagon still retains the veneer of medical respectability,” Justin Thomas, an assistant professor of psychology and psychotherapy at the UAE’s Zayed University and author of "Psychological Well-Being in the Gulf States," told VOA in 2010.

“It may not be viewed as a drug or narcotic because it is not associated with smoking or injecting.”

Five years later, production of Captagon has taken root in Syria — long a heavily trafficked thoroughfare for drugs journeying from Europe to the Gulf States — and it has begun to blossom.

"The breakdown of state infrastructure, weakening of borders and proliferation of armed groups during the ... battle for control of Syria, has transformed the country from a stopover into a major production site," Reuters reported.

"Production in Lebanon's Bekaa valley – a traditional centre for the drug – fell 90% last year from 2011, with the decline largely attributed to production inside Syria," the Guardian noted.

Cheap and easy to produce using legal materials, the drug can be purchased for less than $20 a tablet and is popular among those Syrian fighters who don't follow strict interpretations of Islamic law, according to the Guardian.

Doctors report that the drug has dangerous side effects, including psychosis and brain damage, according to the BBC.

Ramzi Haddad, a Lebanese psychiatrist, told Reuters that the drug produces the typical effects of a stimulant.

"You're talkative, you don't sleep, you don't eat, you're energetic," he said.

According to the news service:

A drug control officer in the central city of Homs told Reuters he had observed the effects of Captagon on protesters and fighters held for questioning.
"We would beat them, and they wouldn't feel the pain. Many of them would laugh while we were dealing them heavy blows," he said. "We would leave the prisoners for about 48 hours without questioning them while the effects of Captagon wore off, and then interrogation would become easier."
One secular ex-Syrian fighter who spoke to the BBC said the drug is tailor-made for the battlefield because of its ability to give soldiers superhuman energy and courage:

"So the brigade leader came and told us, 'this pill gives you energy, try it,' " he said. "So we took it the first time. We felt physically fit. And if there were 10 people in front of you, you could catch them and kill them. You're awake all the time. You don't have any problems, you don't even think about sleeping, you don't think to leave the checkpoint. It gives you great courage and power. If the leader told you to go break into a military barracks, I will break in with a brave heart and without any feeling of fear at all — you're not even tired."
Another ex-fighter told the BBC that his 350-person brigade took the pill without knowing if it was a drug or medicine for energy.

"Some people became addicted to it and it will damage the addicts," he said. "This is the problem."
